The Michelin Guide's review
The Festival Theatre remains one of the foremost opera houses in the world. It was designed by Richard Wagner himself who introduced revolutionary changes, among which the fact that the orchestra was hidden from the sight of the public beneath the stage, and, in a desire to iron out inequality among spectators, the hall was laid out in the shape of an amphitheatre. This design and the choice of building materials have resulted in exceptional acoustics.
