The Michelin Guide's review
In the heart of the old town, the basilica, built from 1087 onwards to house the relics of St Nicolas, brought back by sailors from Bari, is one of the most remarkable examples of Romanesque art in Puglia. Its sober, imposing façade, sparsely adorned with a sculpted doorway, whose columns are supported by bulls, and a few gemelled bays, is flanked by two towers. The Porta dei Leoni - on the left side of the building - is richly decorated. Note the elegant ciborium and fine episcopal throne.
