The Michelin Guide's review
Northeast Scotland's most refined residence, this splendid Baroque mansion was designed by William Adam in around 1735 for William Duff, who became first Earl of Fife. Sold in the early 20C, it became a military camp during the Second World War, and has recently been restored to its former glory by the National Trust for Scotland. The numerous pictures on show, together with furniture and objects on loan, recreate the house's ambience in its heyday.
