Ballintober Castle
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
The high wall of this castle in ruins is strengthened at each corner by a polygon-shaped tower; once surrounded by a moat, it encloses a large rectangular courtyard. Two towers defend the gates on each side. In 1652, the castle fell into the hands of Cromwell's supporters, but in 1677 was returned to the Don of the O'Connor family, descendants of the clan who built the castle around 1300.
