The Michelin Guide's review
On the site of the former Sovereign Hill mine, this reconstruction of an 1860 gold village looks just like the set of a Western. Even if the place now feels like an amusement park, you can still get an idea of what life would have been like for miners and their families in the 19C, courtesy of replicated shops (saloon and the funeral parlour), and the well, which actually dates back to that period. The firing of (fake) pistols in the various street performances provides the soundtrack to your visit.
