Bakai Market
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
An attractive village situated on the right bank of the River Duliu, Bakai bustles with activity on market day, when Dong, Shui and Miao people from the surrounding valleys come into the village. A huge variety of traditional dress can be seen, including a very rare Miao costume made from silk felt and embroidered with snakes, dragons or centipedes, all important themes for this ethnic group; the dragon, considered to be the master of the water and a herald of rain, is particularly venerated. The market takes place every six days, on the days of the Cockerel and the Rabbit.
