The Michelin Guide's review
The forest of Gemenc, which covers some 20,000 ha, illustrates what the flood plains on the banks of the Danube and the Tisza were like before the rivers were regulated. It is home to extremely rich flora and fauna, including stags, boar, water fowl and unusual vegetation. In fine weather, it can be visited either on board a small train (30km journey) or by boat (down the Sió canal which links the Balaton to the Danube).
