The Michelin Guide's review
Unlike its neighbouring temple, Wat Mahatat, Wat Ratchaburana has preserved intact its Khmer prang, studded with niches to house statues of Buddha. This wat was erected in the 15C by King Borommaracha II following a fratricidal battle over the succession to the throne between his two older brothers. Ayutthaya was renowned at the time for the great finesse of its gold and silversmiths, as witnessed by the royal treasure (solid gold jewellery, weapons, votive tablets etc) displayed in the Chao Sam Phraya Museum.
