The Michelin Guide's review
The Plaza de Armas is a square with a homogeneous set of 16C and 17C buildings. It is surrounded by stone arcades with a red-tile roof at its second level. In the centre, the horseback statue of the libertador, Antonio José de Sucre, commemorates the battle of Ayacucho. Built in the 17C, the cathedral has a façade dating from the Renaissance-Baroque transition period. Inside, the ten gilded wood altarpieces are each more exuberant than the next.
