Antigo Convento de Jesus
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
Built between the 15C and 17C, the Antigo Mosteiro de Jesus has a 15C church, which houses the early-18C tomb of St Joana, a magnificent piece by architect João Antunes. It also boasts a superb chancel - a Baroque masterpiece. The site has been converted into a sacred art museum, the second largest in Portugal, and the chronologically ordered collections present a mix of genres. Look out for the late-15C portrait of Princess Joana, the lavishly decorated Sala de Lavor, and the reconstructed Baroque chapels.
