Established in 1965, this marine preserve was California's first city-sponsored underwater park. The protected waters and kelp forests have attracted an abundance of marine life. Several wrecks and artificial reefs are popular with snorkelers and scuba divers: This is the only place within Avalon's limits that diving is permitted.
