The Michelin Guide's review
The real d'Artagnan, born Charles de Batz around 1611 in the Château de Castelmore in Gascony, served in the King's Guard. Having entered the service of Mazarin, he was subsequently entrusted with several delicate missions by Louis XIV, such as the arrest of Lauzan and Fouquet, which he carried out with discretion. After becoming a Lieutenant Captain in the king's musketeers, he died during the siege of Maastricht in 1673. An interesting resumé, but nothing compared to the one created by Alexandre Dumas!
