The Michelin Guide's review
Atop a 65m-high hillock, the Temple of Hephaestus, one of the best-preserved in the Greek world, looms over the Agora. It was dedicated to the worship of Athena and her brother, Hephaestus, god of craftsmen and metalworkers - of whom there were many in the neighbouring area at the time. This 5C BC Doric temple still has its sculpted decor, albeit very eroded, with scenes depicting the adventures of Heracles and Theseus. The marble coffered ceiling of the portico is still intact.
