The Michelin Guide's review
Philae is first and foremost the site on which, according to legend, Isis chose to build her home. Following the goddess's cult, Nectanebo I (Thirtieth Dynasty) and the Ptolemies built a temple (which was completed by the Romans). It was dismantled and relocated to the island of Agilkia in the 1970s to safeguard it from the rising waters of Lake Nasser. Take a trip to explore Hadrian's Gate (a fine scene depicting the sources of the Nile), the Temple of Hathor, built to glorify the goddess of music (scenes with musicians), and Trajan's Kiosk.
