Musée départemental de l'Arles antique
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
Housed in a modern building, this museum reveals the remarkable wealth of Arles' archaeological finds. Exhibits include large statuary (including a bust of Caesar, the museum's emblematic exhibit), models illustrating how the city and its monuments developed in Imperial times, objects relating to the daily life of the people of Arles in Antiquity, splendid mosaics, and an astounding series of pagan and Christian sarcophagi. A wing dedicated to river and maritime trade is set out around a flat-bottomed boat which was fished out of the Rhône in 2004.
