The Michelin Guide's review
This attractively laid out local museum is located in an elegant series of Regency buildings. It stands at the foot of the signal tower erected to communicate with the Bell Rock lighthouse built by Robert Stevenson in 1811, 20 km to the southeast. The story of this astonishing edifice is extremely well illustrated in the museum which emphasises the harsh life of the town's fishermen who came here to live in the 18C after being released from the bondage of the Earl of Northesk.
