The Michelin Guide's review
The "Temple of the Great Awakening", an important Buddhist site, was built around the Bodhi tree. Worship of the tree, along with that of the relics, is the oldest manifestation of the Buddhist faith, dating back to a time when it was forbidden to portray the Buddha. For believers, the ficus tree symbolises enlightenment, or bodhi, i.e. the realisation of the state of Buddha.
