The Michelin Guide's review
The Clos-Lucé was the summer residence selected by Charles VIII for his wife, Anne of Brittany and where Leonardo da Vinci took up residence in 1516. The ground-floor displays magnificent frescoes from the master's workshop (a protective coating was added in the 19C). You will see the bedroom, restored and furnished on the first floor, where he died in 1519, together with his study. Finally, the basement is devoted to his extraordinary machines, which can be seen in the grounds, complete with sound effects.
