Rock Tombs of Amasya

The Michelin Guide's review
Seeming to hover above the river and the old town, and visible for miles around, this site comes into sharp relief and is particularly impressive when lit up at night. These five rock tombs are those of the Pontic kings who ruled Amasya in the 4C BC and who fought valiantly against Roman domination of the region. Similar to the tombs left by the Lycians on the Mediterranean coast, the tombs have monumental façades, which resemble Hellenistic temples carved into the rock.
