Allanche and volcanic mountains of Cézallier

The Michelin Guide's review
An eerie charm lingers over the endless meadows, whose volcanoes have neither cones nor craters. The edges of the plateau slope gently downwards before becoming riddled by deep, narrow valleys. In springtime, a carpet of daffodils gives way to green grasslands, dotted with stone sheep folds and villages. In summer, hundreds of cattle are brought here to graze, led by the red-coated salers cow. The Cézallier appeals to lovers of wide open spaces and cross-country skiers.
