This abandoned fortified town stands majestically on top of the hill (a mota in Spanish), and comprises two sections, each from a different period: the Arab alcazaba, and the Christian citadel with its abbey churches. Along the walls, the ruins of Santo Domingo Church are among the scant remains of the district of the same name. On the esplanade, note the 16C-17C church, Santa María la Mayor, with its fine Renaissance façade.
