The Michelin Guide's review
The Tokugawa Shogunate funded its reign partly on the back of the gigantic goldfield at Sado Kinzan mine, which was discovered in 1601. It was closed in 1989 after almost 400 years of mining but lives on today thanks to a museum in situ, where robots dramatise the working conditions of the former miners.
