The Michelin Guide's review
The landscape as you leave Salerno is one of empty horizons and deserted beaches stretching as far as the eye can see. In stark contrast with the rest of the region, this part of Campania is the domain of large open spaces. The national park extends over more than 1 780km2, from the Tyrrhenian Coast to the Vallo di Diano. This land of remote villages and lonely roads has many hidden treasures, such as Italy's largest charterhouse, the Certosa di Padula, and the Grotte di Castelcivita and Grotte di Pertosa, with their surreal geological formations.
