The Michelin Guide's review
This early 13C moated castle had already lost much of its strategic importance by the time it was almost entirely destroyed by Cromwell's army. An impressive square tower stands in the inner courtyard. The great hall took would have been on the upper floor of the building in the south-west corner of the enclosure. Nearby the remains of St. Nicholas' church (11C) and the chapel of the Desmond family (14C) can be seen.
