The Michelin Guide's review
Eight figures of Quetzalcóatl, the Feathered Serpent, cover the tableros (vertical parts) of this temple. Next to them are Mayan figures and a symbol of the "New Fire", the fifth sun. Above them you can see other noble figures facing the stairway. Calendar glyphs inside the twisted bodies of the serpents indicate important dates. The interpretation of this scene has come a long way in recent years and is now leaning towards a more historical rather than religious meaning.
