The Michelin Guide's review
Watarrka National Park, homeland of the Luritja Aborigines, is a 400-million-year-old jewel set in arid desert, whose jagged cliffs are lit up by stunning red, orange and pink hues at sunset. The scenery around this sandstone canyon unfolds in a flat horizon, where the silence is broken only by the footsteps of passing dromedaries and kangaroos. Kings Canyon is paradise for hikers whose jaw will drop as they skirt Rim Walk, one of the region's most outstanding hikes.
