The Michelin Guide's review
The cathedral, which dates back to the 14C and 15C, towers above the alluvial plains of the River Don. Legend has it that St Machar had the Celtic sanctuary built in the 6C, in accordance with the wishes of St Columba. The austere west façade has a very fine stained-glass window. Don't forget to bring binoculars with you to admire the coat of arms on the ceiling: it illustrates Europe c 1520 in stunning colour.
