The Michelin Guide's review
Shiretoko National Park covers the northern half of this 65km-long peninsula shaped like a finger pointing toward the Sea of Okhotsk. Still virtually unspoilt, at its centre is a volcanic ridge culminating in Mt Rausu-dake (1 661m), with Mt Lo and Mt Shiretoko towards the north towering almost as high. The park has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of the exceptional interaction between its marine and terrestrial ecosystems. Don't miss the Five Lakes trail (Shiretoko Goko) or the Kamuiwakka Falls.
