The Michelin Guide's review
This island, shaped like a cigar, stretches its ridge of peaks parallel to Pico. Its wild and grandiose landscapes - alignments of dozens of ‘fajãs’ that are as unique as they are photogenic - lend themselves particularly well to hiking. You can also enjoy the gentle way of life in Velas, its pretty little capital, take advantage of its beautiful natural pools, taste its famous cheeses and discover its well-preserved craft skills (carpets and bedspreads).
