The Michelin Guide's review
Once used as a hunting ground, this beautiful barrier island is now South Carolina's most popular state park. Bordered by a sublime beach, it stretches over 2 000ha, between palm trees and semi-tropical maritime forest. The many visitors are kept busy by activities such as fishing, hiking and bird watching. Children can even look forward to spotting seahorses in the man-made lagoon. A lighthouse offers a superb view of the site and the Atlantic Ocean.
