The Michelin Guide's review
Located in the Djerdap Gorge and discovered in the 1960s, Lepenski Vir is an exceptional archaeological site, first settled circa 7 000 BC. Excavations uncovered many objects from the Mesolithic period and made it possible to establish that the inhabitants of this hamlet raised domestic animals 5 000 years BC. The unearthed artefacts are kept in the small local museum and the National Museum in Belgrade.
