On the south coast of Yoron island, only a few foundations of the old Yoron Castle remain. In the 15C it had been given to the son of one of the kings of the dynasty of the kingdom of the Ryukyu. At that time, the archipelago of Okinawa, comprising the Amami Islands, formed an autonomous kingdom. A lane leads to the modest Shinto shrine and a small cemetery partly covering the ruins. In fine weather, you can see Cape Hedo on the large Okinawa-hontō island (23km to the southwest).
