The Michelin Guide's review
Stretching south of El Paso along the Rio Grande are three 17C missions that once lured settlers as farming and ranching centers. All are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.Northernmost is Mission Ysleta, built for Spanish and Tigua refugees from the Pueblo Revolt in 1680. Floods destroyed the original mission; this one dates from 1851. Descendants of those Tiguas still use the mission for religious services. Their Tigua Indian Cultural Center has a museum, restaurant, gallery and weekend dances.
