A path shaded by palms leads to Kanami Promontory. Multi-coloured butterflies flutter past in their quest for passion fruit or dragon fruit. From time to time a subtle light picks out, through the openwork hedge, small plots of cultivated land. On a clear day, from the lookout it is possible to make out the main island Amami-Ōshima, as well as the small islands of Yoroshima and Ukeshima. Below are two picturesque white-sand beaches hemmed in by tree ferns.
