The Michelin Guide's review
Located at the extreme northwest of Iceland, Hornstrandir is one of Europe's most unspoilt areas. Inhabited since the 1950s, it is listed as a nature reserve and is only accessible by ferry (from Ísafjördur and Bolungarvík) or on foot. The astounding beauty of the landscapes, symbolised by the incredible Hornbjarg Cliffs, looming over 500m high, as well as its flora and fauna (seals, birds and many arctic foxes), make this a first-rate destination for hikers. The peninsula attracts thrill-seekers and those who love untouched spaces.
