The Michelin Guide's review
At the beginning of the 20C, painters, writers and composers would make pilgrimages to the summit of Koli (347m altitude), which dominates the west bank of Lake Pielinen. The magnificent panorama reveals an enchanting, peaceful landscape, with islands scattered in the lake and a succession of hills and valleys. The artists of the national Romantic period were inspired by this type of landscape that symbolised the Finnish countryside. The road leads to a car park (200m altitude) and then footpaths take you to the top.
