The Michelin Guide's review
On reaching the Hospice de France (alt. 1,385m), you can take in the majesty of the pastoral site, the forest and the neighbouring waterfalls, all great terrain for walks. Experienced walkers can climb to the Port de Vénasque mountain pass (alt. 2,444m) by the mule track, making an early start from the Hospice de France. From the first slopes of the Spanish side (4hr 30min on foot there and back) or even better from the Pic de Sauvegarde (alt. 2,738m – 6hr on foot there and back), there is a superb view of the whole Maladetta mountain range.
