15 nautical miles to the north-east of Flores, a large black rock beaten by foam rises out of the water: this is the island of the Raven (Corvo), the emerged part of a marine volcano, Monte Gordo (718 m), whose caldera is one of the most beautiful in the archipelago. Isolated, welcoming, peaceful, green and a favourite with migratory birds, it is a landmark for all those who come to discover the Azores.
