The Michelin Guide's review
Le Mal Infernet is a reminder of the days when victims of the plague (the "infernal evil") were thrown into the bottom of the ravine. Start from the Belle-Barbe Pass and follow the stream, Ruisseau du Grenouillet (two ford crossings). The path then leads into the wooded ravine, which is steeper, a grandiose site dominated by spiky rocks. Allow 2hr 30min for the 8km round trip. Energetic walkers can continue towards Notre Dame Pass (about 3km further), bypassing the Pic and Dent de l'Ours.
