Le Linge
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
This site was the scene of a terrible First World War battle. Between 20 July and 16 October 1915, Le Linge (highest point 986m) and its summits - Barrenkopf, Kleinkopf and Schratzmaennele - became a "grave" of France's mountain infantry, the Chasseurs Alpins, as German attacks and counter-attacks were ordered. The Linen Memorial Museum and the battlefield are a moving and important reminder of a chapter of history that claimed the lives of 17 000 German and French soldiers.
