The Michelin Guide's review
It is a must to give the ascent of Le Lioran's colossus a go (4hr round trip): Puy Griou (1 694m) is composed of volcanic rock forming flat slabs due to frost action. From the summit, which is reached by a path crossing andesite scree and phonolitic basalt at the end of the route, the panorama is splendid: Puy Mary, Puy de Peyre-Arse, Plomb du Cantal. The valleys of La Cère and Jordanne (also called Mandailles) are carved out on either side of the Elancèze ridgeline.
