What started as a pop-up has now become a permanent fixture in the Gasthaus zum Prinz Johann, an inn steeped in history. Owners Martin Nuart and Philipp Medved take a very personal approach to hospitality. Philipp runs the front of house in a refreshingly informal, friendly and assured manner, and Martin is the chef behind the regional cuisine. His intriguing plant-forward set menu showcases select seasonal ingredients from his family's own farm or nearby farmers. The wine selection is predominantly Austrian, with Slovenia and Italy also represented. The atmosphere is wonderfully inviting, with lovely old floorboards, understated wooden benches and chairs, and decorative contemporary artwork sensitively incorporated into the traditional setting. In fine weather, the terrace behind the house is an idyllic spot with plenty of welcome shade.
