The Michelin Guide's review
This restaurant is a Thessaloniki landmark, capturing the true essence of traditional Cretan cuisine through beautifully crafted, authentic creations brimming with flavour. Charoupi means ‘carob’ in Greek and is the symbol of Crete, the homeland of talented chef Manolis Papoutsakis, who celebrates the island’s cuisine here with a contemporary touch while never losing sight of its traditional roots. Our recommendations? Do not miss the Caracóis cretenses, Cretan snails cooked with olive oil, fresh rosemary and roasted garlic, or the fabulous Ravióis de alfarroba, carob ravioli with lamb, mint, Cretan cheese, sesame and egg-and-lemon sauce. Be sure to save room for the superb desserts, such as the Merengue, meringue served with roasted lemon cream, citrus sauce and verbena ice cream. In summer, enjoy the open-air terrace, although booking in advance is advisable!
