With history dating back to 1994, Chris and Idie Hastings have cooked their way into the very fabric of the city’s culinary tapestry. Now located in trendy Pepper Place, the bustling space features a curved chef’s counter in the kitchen as well as ample bar and table seating. Their respect for the seasons means that the menu is constantly on the move. Come winter, look for hearty preparations like rabbit pappardelle with butternut squash or ancho-rubbed Iberico pork chop with apple chutney. In the summer, everyone comes for the tomato salad, which features a towering stack of heirloom tomatoes dressed up with lady peas, fried okra and a zippy balsamic vinaigrette. For dessert, chocolate souffle with crème anglaise is a lovely, sweet finale.
