This is the only main square of Zadar to have kept its heritage intact. The Municipal Guard building on the west side dates from 1562, while the loggia, opposite, formerly a courthouse, is located in a Renaissance Revival edifice. On the northeast side, Ghirardini palace, a tall Romanesque house sports a distinctive Gothic-Renaissance balcony (15C). The square is home to the town's most pleasant cafe terraces (to the rear of Lovre café are the remains of an 11C church).
