The Michelin Guide's review
With plants and landscaped environments an integral part of its concept, the Smithsonian's National Zoo is both a "biopark" presenting more than 2 000 wild animals and a research institute devoted to the study, protection and breeding of endangered species. Nearly a third of the 400 species represented here are considered endangered. The Panda House with its famous residents is one of the zoo's most popular highlights.
