The Michelin Guide's review
The forest of Saoû site is ranked as the highest syncline (geological fold) of Europe: it forms a basin that is 12km long and surrounded by mountains. Outside, the cliffs are sheer, while inside is a thriving forest mantle of white oaks, Scotch pines and beech trees, making up the realm of marmots, chamois, roe deer, squirrels and even eagles. The secluded Dauphins inn, tucked away in the heart of the forest, is an extravagant replica (1930) of the Petit Trianon of Versailles.
