The Michelin Guide's review
One of the largest castles in Provence was built from the 10C on Puech rock by the emperors of the Germanic Holy Roman Empire (Empéri is the Provençal for empire); from the 13C-15C, the castle was the favourite residence of the archbishops of Arles. Today, the castle is home to the Musée de l'Empéri, a museum of art and military history, which houses one of the richest collections of French military uniforms, as well as flags, decorations, knives, firearms, cannons and paintings.
