The Michelin Guide's review
The sister of Emperor Honorius, Galla Placidia (c 392-450), held court in Ravenna in truly ostentatious Roman style. Her mausoleum is an impressive 5C construction in the form of a Latin cross, decorated with Roman-style mosaics featuring geometric motifs, symbols of the Evangelists and images of animals. Stellar and floral motifs adorn the dark blue vaults and cupola. The tympanum and pendentives are decorated with scenes full of symbolic serenity.
