Musée des Beaux-Arts de Quimper
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
This resolutely modern museum is established in an Italianate palace (1867) opposite the cathedral. It displays a collection of paintings from the 14C to the present day, including the schools of Northern Europe (Rubens), Italy, and France (Corot, Boudin). Several rooms display regional works (paintings and sculptures, 47m-long fresco by Lemordant), and one is devoted to Max Jacob, from Quimper. Be sure to see the museum's highlight: 30 paintings of the Pont-Aven School (Gauguin, Sérusier, Vallotton).
